Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the factors associated with anxiety in hemodialysis patients. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. An accidental sampling technique was used to obtain a total sample of 34 respondents. The data were analyzed using Fisher’s exact test. Results: Based on the results of statistical tests, it is known that the level of anxiety related to hemodialysis patients, namely hemodialysis duration with Fisher's exact (P= 0.020). While the hemodialysis time value (P= 0.173, and work status value (P = 0.080), there was no association with the anxiety of hemodialysis patients. Conclusion: This study concluded that the duration of hemodialysis was related to the anxiety of hemodialysis patients, whereas there was no result in hemodialysis and occupational status related to the incidence of anxiety in hemodialysis patients. Therefore, healthcare providers should concern about the duration of hemodialysis time to prevent anxiety.

Abstract

Background: Very low birth weight is a condition of babies with a birth weight of less than 1500 grams. Premature or preterm babies are prone to nutrition deficiencies due to inadequate suction reflexes and inability of the digestive tract to absorb nutrients. Preterm Infant Oral Motor Intervention as known as PIOMI is an intervention used to stimulate the sucking reflex. The PIOMI intervention was carried out by massaging and stimulating the oral cavity, cheeks, and tongue before feeding once a day. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the effect of administration of the PIOMI intervention on weight gain, increased intake and increasing LATCH on, Audible of swallowing, Type of nipple, Comfort level, Hold positioning as known as LATCH score. Methods: This case study type experimental research design with nursing care approach. The population of this study consisted of very low birth preterm (<1200 grams) newborns. The study sample included 1 single case of very low birth weight preterm newborns, resulting from the strength analysis, who were treated in high risk neonatal unit university hospital. Data were collected using the Preterm Infant Chart Form and LATCH Breastfeeding Scale. PIOMI intervention was conducted for 7 consecutive days. Nutritional status evaluated each day and the sucking successes were evaluated at day 1 and day 7. Results: The results indicated that after the intervention for 7 consecutive days the weight and diet increased. There was also an increase in the LATCH score before treatment until prior to discharge from the hospital (7-9). Conclusion: Administration of PIOMI is expected to prevent delays in oral feeding, increasing LATCH score and overcome nutritional deficiencies in low birth weight infants.

The sampling technique used is accidental sampling. The data collection tool used is a family centered care questionnaire. The research analysis used univariate analysis in the form of a frequency distribution. The results showed that the application of family centered care was in the good category as many as 71 respondents (71%), and in the medium category as many as 29 respondents (29%). From the results of the study, it was stated that nurses had involved the family in care, where the family participated in making decisions on support plans, recovery and helping patients not to be anxious. Abstract

Background: Sleep quality disorders are a problem that postpartum mothers often experience. The postpartum is the period after giving birth or commonly called the puerperium, which is the period after giving birth that is needed to restore the uterine organs. Post-partum mothers experience sleep quality disorders both due to new roles and changes during the postpartum period. Sleep quality that is not treated properly can bring changes that can affect physical and psychological problems. Thus, it needs to interfere with the sleep quality of post-partum mothers. Objectives: This study aimed to prove that the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) was also beneficial in improving sleep quality in postpartum mothers. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental pre-and post-test design with a control group. The research subjects were 56 postpartum mothers treated at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang in June and September 2021, divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention was carried out twice a week for four weeks, with a SEFT duration of 20 minutes. The control group received standard therapy in the form of dhikr therapy. The Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PQSI) questionnaire used seven assessment components to measure research outcomes. The univariate analysis used central tendency in the form of the mean, median, and standard deviation. The different test of sleep quality before and after the intervention in the intervention group was carried out by the Wilcoxon match pair test (abnormal distribution), while the control group used paired t-test (normal distribution). For the mean difference test between groups, it used Mann Whitney test. Results: The mean score of sleep quality in the intervention group before treatment was 10,86 + 1,79 (poor sleep quality) and after treatment decreased significantly (p=0,00) to 5,25 + 1,46 (still in poor sleep quality). The quality of sleep in the control group before treatment was 10,89 + 1,89 and after the intervention was 10,71 + 2,35 with p=0,47. The components of subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep duration, and sleep disturbance in the intervention group were significantly lower than in the control group. Conclusion: The SEFT intervention can significantly improve sleep quality in postpartum mothers, but it is still in the poor category. Besides, the sleep quality score can be considerably improved, especially in four of the seven components.

Abstract

Background: The complexity of services that nurses must provide nowadays encourages nurses to develop their moral courage. A review of the literature reveals that no studies have been conducted to evaluate the association between clinical nurse tenure and their level of moral courage. Objectives: this study is to assess correlation between the tenure of nurses and the level of moral courage. Methods: analytic survey research at 5 hospitals in Makassar, including private and government hospitals with a total sample of 405 nurses. The sampling technique used multistage random sampling. The variables measured were tenure of nurses and the level of moral courage of nurses. The Professional Moral Courage Questionnaire is used for the variable moral courage (Cronbach 'alpha: 0.756). Data analysis using Mann Whitney test. Results: The majority of nurses with long and new tenure had moderate moral courage (new tenure 79 nurses; length tenure 238 nurses), and there was no significant difference in the moral courage level of nurses with long and new tenure (p=0.294). Conclusion: Considering the findings that nurse tenure has no effect on moral courage, nursing managers can consistently boost nurses' moral courage through external stimuli. A nurse who cannot face various ethical dilemmas in providing daily nursing care can result in moral distress.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a common problem that occurs in people who have metabolic disorders characterized by increased blood sugar due to decreased secretion by pancreatic beta cells or impaired insulin function. Objectives: This study aims to determine what factors are associated with self-management in Type 2 DM patients at the Buduran Health Center.Design: This study was a quantitative research. The design in this study was a cross-sectional analytic with a sample of 80 people who were carried out at the endocrine polyclinic Puskesmas Buduran Sidoarjo. Research instrument used the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire (DSMQ) developed by Schmitt et al (2013) to determine the self-management of type 2 DM patients and to measure the level of knowledge using the Diabetes Knoeledge Test (DKT) instrument developed by Burrough et al (2008), measure to physical activity using the Summary of Diabetes Self Care Activities (SDSCA), measure to family support using Family Support Questionairre, and measure to self efficacy using Diabetes management Self Efficacy Scale (DMSES). The sample siza with simple random sampling method, and data analysis using spearman rank test. Results: The results showed that there was a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and self-management with a coefficient value (r=0.576), a significant relationship between activity ability and self-management with a coefficient value (r=0.612), a significant relationship between family support and self-management with a value of coefficient (r=0.592) and there is a significant relationship between self-efficacy and self-management with a coefficient value (r=0.660). Conclusion: Patients DM Type 2 can be overcome by providing education in every prolanis activity program which is expected to increase knowledge, activity abilities, family support and self-efficacy, so that patients are able to improve self-management well.
